Adaptive Program
for Runners

This program is for runners (ambulatory) who have a physical, intellectual or vision impairment and will be participating “on foot,” including runners who use prostheses or running blades.

Guide Runner

If you are visually impaired, or your disability or medical condition means you need a support runner, you can request a free spot in the race for them. Please email us at contact@everywomansmarathon.com outlining your request and the reasons for it.

Neurodivergent

If the crowds and noise are overwhelming and you need a calming and soothing spot, we’ll have a quiet space at the finish for neurodivergent participants. Please visit the Finish Line Information tent for access to the quiet space.

Bladder or Bowel Condition

If you have a bladder or bowel condition, an “I Can’t Wait” card explains you have a medical condition and need urgent access to a toilet. Just present this card to the runner at the front of the line to gain access to general toilets, or to a member of our staff to gain private toilet access. To request an “I Can’t Wait” card, please email your name and mailing address to
membership@crohnscolitisfoundation.org

Wheelchair Division

This division is for athletes who are racing in a wheelchair or using a handcycle. Athletes will begin two minutes before the start of the first wave of the race.

Push-Rim Athlete

For safety reasons, push-rim wheelchair participants must use a racing wheelchair. A day chair may be used only if fitted with an attachment such as a freewheel.

Handcycle Athlete

A handcycle provides an alternate means of participation for runners who, due to the nature of their physical impairment, are not able to use a racing wheelchair or run with a prosthesis.

To participate using a handcycle, runners must be able to propel themselves through the course unassisted and unaccompanied. In addition:

  • Participants must wear a helmet at all times while using the handcycle.
  • Participants must have an orange visibility flag on a 5’–6’ flexible pole/stick attached to the handcycle at
all times.
  • Handcycles with motors or pedals are not permitted. No additional gear-, crank-, or chain-powered cycling equipment may be used by participants, including foot-powered recumbent bikes, tricycles or bicycles.

Assisted/Duo Teams

These teams are composed of an athlete with an eligible impairment in a specialized racing wheelchair pushed by one or more able-bodied runners.

One participant of a Duo Team must be a paid registrant with an individual race number, while the other member must have a guide. Each team has a max capacity of five participants, including one individual in the chair and four pushers. Please visit the AWD booth at the Wellness Fair & Expo for guide credentials.

Accessible Amenities

We’ll have four ADA-compliant toilets at the start line, plus 10 ADA-compliant toilets on-course. We’ll also have a gear check specifically for athletes with disabilities (AWD) that can take larger items, such as prosthetics.
